On Layers Series
The series “ Layers” by Melih Sarıgöl is an experiment on visualization of possible geographies through free improvisation. In the beginning the surface is dark. By using extraction technique with water and color, the elements of geography such as cityscape, landscape, nature and desert occur as layers on paper. Here, the minimalistic approach and usage of broken perspective creates a visual language like in classical Japanese painting or miniatures. On every painting a different organization, a different problem is handled. Each journey is different than the other one, however the real aim is getting lost among the layers."
