Umut Altıntaş is an independent graphic designer and academic, based in İzmir, Turkey whose main focus is on typography and book design. N. Toros Mutlu is a photographer and an academic, based also in İzmir. Mutlu’s interests are representation, heterotopic space, vernacular documentary image and poetic realism.
The story of Kumpanya goes back to 2014, when the artists first found the images on an online auction website. What seem to be some old ephemeral photographs of 20’s at first glance, soon reveals itself to be much more. In 24 photographs, the viewer not only discovers the energy of a rural community of kids and their inclination to performing arts, but also an inspiring story of the same kids wanting to make a film. Taking this as a mission statement, KartonKitap (Umut Altıntaş & N. Toros Mutlu) attempts to make this dream come true and finish this film.
