Ahu Akgün after graduating from Mimar Sinan University Fine Arts Faculty Painting Department in 2009, the same year she continued her further studies in textile and painting department of Burg Giebichenstein Hochschule für Kunst und Design Halle, Germany. In 2015, she entered Sabancı University Department of Visual Arts and Communication Design as a master student and she graduates this year. She continues to work at her studio in Istanbul.
In Ancient Greece, it was believed that the “black bile” circulating in the human body was the source of “melancholy”. Based on this description, because of the inertia that nowadays imposes, I paint within the vision as if this fluid behavior moves around us. While I depict melancholy in a common and familiar “reverie” atmosphere, I intend to reflect the psychology of our era also I identify the fluid nature of melancholy and the process in my work with one another.
